NY Featured Event

When I wrote my review of BYTE back in September 2004, the state of Manhattan’s fetish scene was decidedly sadsack. Unfortunately, things have only gotten worse. But BYTE lives on! And this month they celebrate their one-year anniversary. Synthi-sexy success never tasted so sweet. The producers are pleased and proud to be celebrating their big one year anniversary, Sunday, August 14. Marke, Xris, Clea Cutthroat, DJ Lucien and Dark Jane invite you show up early for all sorts of exciting giveaways and grab a spot to sit your ass down, cause this one’s definitely gonna be packed.
They've remained true to their goals, giving a space for all sorts of artists to express themselves and show their work.

"One year later and still going strong," Xris tells me, "BYTE is constanly looking for new bands, artists, DJs, VJs, Mistressess to host the BYTE dungeon and performers. We've presented quite a few in the past year, including bands like Industrial Heavyweights BILE, Still Life Decay, iSynthesist and the Dead Sexy from Paris, to name a few."

Some more of the performers who have graced the stage at BYTE are The P-Cult, Von Von Von, Dario Speedwagon, Flesh for Fire, Gothic Hangman and the Baroness. And the walls have been hung with art by Misfit Studios, Voltaire, Mish and D'Drennan (R.I.P.).

Xris continues, "We have presented and are always looking for original art for our BYTE flyers. Anyone can submit art, music demos, DJ sets, etc. through the website and have a chance to participate. BYTE has become the successor to previously successful clubs like Mother, uniting many scenes within one party: Rockers, ElectroKids, Rivetheads, the vampire set, fetishists, straight, gay, you name it! And everyone fits into the mix. We encourage participation and entice every month with giveaways, aftershow parties (Nine Inch Nails and Mindless Self Indulgence), drink specials and a purposely low door fee: only $5!"

Your DJs for the anniversary evening are Lucien, Ash, Tommie, Sunshine and Adam X, spinning everything you'd expect at a synthi-sexy cyberfetishy event. Downstairs in the basement, live aural offerings by Psychaesthetic and Rise NYC. For the artistic entertainment, you’ll be treated to video by the SMack! Video Lab and paintings by Gothic Hangman, who will also be celebrating his birthday!

Performances by Ravi and The Scorpion Mystic will provide further distraction. Mistress Harlequinn and her coterie of special guest dominatrices will imperiously preside over the BYTE dungeon and send unsuspecting slave boys to the bar for them. As usual, the BYTE go-go dancers will give you neverending eye candy to keep you amused. Led by co-producers Clea Cutthroat and Dark Jane (wipe your mouth), there will be boys and girls on boxes, the bar and the main stage, playing with fire and generally gyrating. Feel free to tip the hot young cuties Amber Star, Ru, Bianca and Dario Speedwagon.

Lovely Door Goddess Persia will divest the cool, the hot and the curiously kinky of their $5, while those too lazy to do more than wear black will fork over $7. And for the truly clueless, she’ll be insisting they pay the full $10 idiot tax. So do yourself a favor and drag out something shiny and latex or buckled and laced, for hell’s sake! It shouldn’t be that hard to dress up! I mean, it’s only once a month! And it’s a special celebration! For those of you looking for a cheap-and-easy buzz, BYTE’s drink specials should do the trick: $5 vodka-and-Red Bulls, $5 bloodbaths or $6 for a Bud with a kamikaze shot. But even if you aren’t on a budget, the drink prices aren’t too bad for a nighclub. My usual Coronas only cost $7—when I have to buy them! Well drinks are $8, if you believe liquor is quicker.
The producers remind you to “Remember, events are only as good as those who participate, so please show your support!”
